Abstract

In general, psychology is a science that deals with mentality both normally and abnormally and has an influence on one’s behavior. Psychology can also be interpreted as science that discuss the symptoms and activities of the soul. Therefore, Jacques Lacan is a person who put forward the theory of psychoanalysis. In his theory that discusses desires and phases. In this analysis, the researcher aim to find out about desire and phase of Humbert character in the novel Lolita. This research uses Descriptive Qualitative Method, because the researcher explains through the sentences or dialogue in the novel. In this analysis, the researcher found that there were 17 desires and 10 phases in the novel Lolita. 17 desires included 10 desire ‘to have’ and 7 desire ‘to be’, and for the phases included 3 the real phase, 3 the imaginary phase and the last 4 the symbolic phase. In the novel Lolita, the researcher found a lot of desire from Humbert, because Humbert shows a lot of desire for Lolita ranging from the desire to have until the desire to become someone who can attract attention for Lolita. In this novel, it is very clear that Humbert not only have Lolita to satisfy his lust, but he also wants to have Lolita completely forever.
