Abstract

The aims of this study is to find out the hierarchy of needs of major characters in the novel “Adrift”. In this study, descriptive method was used as the method of the study. The data were collected thorough dialogues and utterances of the major characters in the novel. The major characters in the novel could complete the lower level until the top level of needs. It is include physiological needs, safety needs, love and belongingness needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. However, both the major characters have their own way in fulfilling the needs. While, the most dominant needs which appear in the novel is physiological needs because it is the most important needs to support another needs. The hierarchy of needs could completely fulfill by the major characters even in the hardest situation, which delivers lessons in fulfilling the needs to the readers’ life.
