Abstract
This research explores the portrayal of dissociative amnesia and the dynamics of the id, ego, and superego in Elly Conway, a character from the film Argylle, using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory. Through a qualitative descriptive analysis, the study examines how dissociative amnesia is depicted in Elly's character and analyzes her personality development based on Freud's structural model of the psyche. The findings indicate that Elly suffers from dissociative amnesia, marked by memory loss and disconnection from her past due to the repression of traumatic memories. Initially, her personality is dominated by the superego, leading to internal conflicts when repressed id impulses emerge. However, as the narrative progresses, her ego strengthens, enabling her to mediate between the desires of the id and the moral constraints of the superego. This study contributes to the understanding of character development in film, particularly in relation to dissociative disorders, through the application of psychoanalytic theory.
